At Graduate Professional Success in STEM (GPS-STEM), we believe a PhD is a beginning, not a destination. We serve as the vital bridge between world-class academic research and the diverse career pathways of the 21st century. By supporting PhD students and postdoctoral scholars across all STEM disciplines at UC Irvine, we ensure that our scientists don't just graduate—they lead.
Generic support doesn’t move the needle—specific opportunities do. Your Giving Day contribution directly funds three high-impact initiatives designed to launch our scholars into their first professional roles:
- Quarterly Networking Mixers & Mentorship: We break down the walls between the lab and the "real world." These funds host industry-specific mixers where students find the mentors and professional networks that lead to job offers.
- 1-1 Career Coaching & Communication Mastery: Industry is driven by the team, not just the individual. We hire experts to help our scholars shift from "Academic Expert" to "Industry Learner." Your gift funds training in Technical Literacy—the ability to communicate complex science to any audience—and Emotional Intelligence, teaching scientists how to move from critique to collaboration.
- STEM Business Concepts Certificate Series: This 8-week, team-based program teaches the "Business of Science"—from strategy to the Business Model Canvas. Your support allows us to bring in business executives to provide direct feedback on student projects in a fun, competitive environment.
