UCI CARE provides free and confidential support services to members of the UCI community who have been impacted by sexual assault, relationship abuse, family violence and/or stalking. Programs and services are available to people of all identities and regardless of status. UCI CARE aims to end these forms of power-based personal violence by engaging the campus community in education, programming, and transformative action. CARE believes that every member of the UCI community has the right to live, learn, work and socialize in safety.
However, surveys consistently report that the highest rates of sexual violence and relationship abuse occur at the highest rates in college and university settings, with certain communities being especially at risk, including communities of color, undocumented students, members of the LGBT community, and individuals with disabilities. Together, we can ensure that our students, staff and faculty have the resources and support that they need to create safe spaces and thrive.
During the 2018-2019 year, CARE Advocates provided support to 380 individuals impacted by sexual violence, relationship abuse, family violence and/or stalking through in-person advocacy and outreach.
CARE’s primary funding priority for Giving Day 2020 is the CARE Survivor Fund.
The CARE Survivor Fund is a tool introduced during the summer of 2019 that allows the CARE office to support members of the UCI community impacted by sexual and relationship violence and offer financial assistance for needs and concerns that are a direct result of power-based personal violence. These funds are so valuable because they are unrestricted, meaning CARE can assist with pressing and urgent concerns, and that wasn’t possible prior to the creation of this fund.
Since the fund was established, CARE has been able to support 16 students by dispensing over $4,000, granting them access to basic needs such as food, transportation to and from medical and/or legal appointments, co-pays for counseling appointments, relocation assistance, clothing and toiletries for someone leaving an abusive relationship, and support to explore opportunities for healing such as yoga or meditation.
Your generous donation of any amount will be directly supporting student survivors of power-based personal violence in a way that many campus partners and community agencies have not been able to. These funds are often life-altering and sometimes life-saving—allowing survivors to heal with the dignity and comfort which often results in the successful completion of the educational experience.
