At the UC Irvine Samueli School of Engineering, we are reimagining what a modern engineering education could look like. Sure, our students must take (and hopefully ace) their thermodynamics and machine learning courses. But it’s outside the classroom that the real magic happens.
Students who participate in cohort-based experiences not only do better academically, they also gain valuable experiences and have more fun. We have students launching rockets, creating hyperloop pods, and building robots that perform on stage. Talk about magic!
In fact, the Samueli School of Engineering is on track to becoming one of the world’s preeminent institutions, as an innovative, inclusive, and forward-thinking program. But we cannot do it alone, or without resources. Anything we do beyond business as usual requires additional, external support, which is why Giving Day is so important.
Your support has allowed us to roll out the E-SONIC competition that we hold jointly with the Pacific Symphony and the UC Irvine Claire Trevor School of the Arts, where student teams design and showcase never-before-seen musical instruments. Your support has also helped us launch our Office for Experiential Learning, where students can see their wild ideas come to life in physical and digital makerspaces with direct industry relevance.
With your support today of the Dean’s Excellence Fund, all the donations will go to support student projects and other cohort-based programs and will help us connect project-based learning activities with industry and career readiness initiatives.
